Incredible pressing, excellent album! Love every Metallica album from the 80s, and I feel this was their last greatest musical statement before they cut their hairs and became musical errands. Happy to add this to my collection.Late 1991: REM 'Out of Time', RHCP 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik', Metallica 'Black Album' and Nirvana 'Nevermind'. I spent two months in Baltimore at the time, and those four albums take me there and then! This music was all over the place, and MTV was playing their video clips 24/7.
Arashigore
why associate an album with a haircut, what is the relation between hair and their music?
Kaghma
Quality and clean pressing, superb range of highs and lows if your system can bring them out, no complaints.. no pops, no skips, money well spent!
Tygrarad
So this is one of those pressings that is like a lottery. You might get this version (potential pressing quality control issues), or this version: https://www.discogs.com/Metallica-Metallica/release/13266383 (different pressing, doesn't have people complaining). For those that say it's your bad setup/equipment, sorry you are mistaken. I have played this version on 2 different tables/cartridges and it skips in the same spots everytime. I dont have a single other LP that skips like this. Regretfully this version and the other version there is no way to tell which you get until you open it since nothing on the outside is different. Other than that it sounded pretty good, the other pressing mentioned above is superior in quality and sounded the same as this version.
Dominator
My pressing sounds great and well worth the purchase compared to the 45 RPM price.
Quamar
What a piece of F'ing crap. The Blackened Recordings sounds like sh*t. Dog sh*t.It's not even a skip, it's the recording itself that is chopped up. But it happens on EVERY song. The audio sounds like my old Kraco 6x9's in my Pinto. Are you kidding me? Every other album in my collection (1000 albums) sounds killer on my system. This sounds like SH*T. Period.
Mpapa
I have the version of this with the download code, which is listed separately on here. Aside from the download is that version any different? They seem to be indistinguishable otherwise; the download card wasn't even advertised on the shrink wrap.
Tinavio
The runout identifiers should be different. If you have the download code, you probably have this version https://www.discogs.com/Metallica-Metallica/release/13266383 Which is a better pressing imo
Cordann
Yes, this is a great sounding version. So much power behind the drums and you could clearly hear the bass + guitars, vocals are prestine.
Erennge
This album sounds great! such an energetic and powerful bass, the sound alone is worth the money, I have not heard the other versions, but if you have the opportunity to buy this version, then do it, you will not regret it.
Punind
This pressing is INCREDIBLE sounding. But a major reason why this album sounds so good is of course the pressing, but Bob Rock (love him or hate him) produced the S**T out of this album and Randy Staub put on a clinic as to how you should engineer an album.
Dugor
OH YES!! If you've never heard this on vinyl & through a decent system with good bass you don't know what you're missing buy this don't even think do it!
MarF
This record makes me want bigger speakers. Most of the time I feel like my Mackie MR824s can handle anything I throw at them, but I feel like they are missing a deeper bottom end that this record is trying to deliver. My only complaint: the packaging is very... economical. An embossed cover would have been nice because the dark graphics on pure black is a little too Spinal Tap "none more black". And the inner sleeves are as cheap as it gets--plan on replacing them with poly-lined or MOFi.
Mala
Bought this from Acoustic Sounds. Just to be clear if anyone is wondering, this is their description: "150-gram 2 LP reissue on Metallica's own Blackened Recordings label, Half-speed mastered from original analog tapes at Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs for the ultimate listening experience"Works for me, all I need is this pressing!
Lightwind
I have this and the Blackened pressing of ...And Justice For All. That one sounds like you're listening to it through cell phone speakers and was a waste of money. This release, however, sounds fantastic, and I don't have any trouble recommending it! It's not nearly as quiet as Justice, so you don't have to turn it up so loud you can hear every molecule in the groove; there's actually bass (which, I know that's just how Justice was mixed, but it sounds even more tinny than usual on that pressing); and everything sounds really clear.
Yahm
Have to agree with the folks that give this pressing a thumbs up. Very clean sounding if you have your rig setup correctly. Even picked up a few instruments that were previously buried in the mix on previous releases. I do have to say it's bass heavy on my opinion and there may have been a little too much compression, but not enough to take away from the experience. I DO want to check out the Holland pressing everyone keeps talking about though!
August
The comments here put me off buying this for quite a while, and I was going to buy the newer pressing when i found it at the right price. But I managed to get this version sealed and shipped for €20. It's perfect. Zero issues and sounds fantastic.
Super P
is this also cut by chris bellman? same as the 2008 WB release? thanks
Braned
I totaly agree that some turntables may need a proper set up Just remember Led Zeppelin II High Mix 1st USA ''RL'' pressing which was replaced by poor master cut pressing since cheap turntables (which most of consumers carried) skipped all over the record (cheap cartridges and absence of proper set up couldnt let track the very indeed high mixed grooves and records were returned). Now a very shout after copy that can be played on most modern turntables which carry a decent cartridge/tonearm and can be properly set up providing a jaw-drop performance
Monam
Agreeing with others on here...this pressing is just fine, has a super sound. No issues, both LPs flat and solid.
Prinna
Bought new, all four sides play perfectly fine on my properly aligned and set-up Rega. The recording sounds fantastic as well. For anyone complaining about skipping, I suggest you check your turntable. These are high quality pressings.
Early Waffle
Looks mint and sounds great except that it constantly skips on everything alot...
Modred
Excellent sounding record. Lacquer cut by Chris Bellman "CB" and pressed at Pallas U.S.A. Quality all around on vinyl. Wish jacket was gatefold though. Both records are in one pouch.
Orll
not to be rude, but it's not the pressing, it's the equipment you are playing it on. my copy sounds and plays perfect. it's all about a decent cartridge/stylus properly set up and aligned. i figured it out the hard way myself. trust me, it really is worth the extra effort/money.
Dagdalas
only new or old record I had to do the "penny" trick on to play without skips on my LP60....after cleaning many times. Highly disappointing. And as others the most issue is side 3 with nothing else matters.
Akta
Do not buy this version. Horrible !! Mine skips in through the never chorus, i am disappointed with this record, one of the best albums of history, so badly pressed....
Dorizius
My copy skips on Side 3. Didn't bother with side 4. Returning it tomorrow. Avoid this pressing.
Funky
On my LP60, skips constantly on sides 3 and 4.On my LP120 no skips at all.
Mezilabar
So the crappier the "turntable" the more likely "skips"?Who knew?
Tam
Bought new, skips on nothing else matters. Had a bulge in the middle of the second record that is causing the skip. Everything else sounds great.
Phain
Bought my copy today, plays perfect no issues or skips whatsoever!
Mikarr
Bought new yesterday, so have not heard the whole record. But Enter Sandman skips a couple of times. Gonna try experimenting on different setups.
Rolorel
Bought brand new, skips right away on The Unforgiven. Disappointing, to say the least.
Era
Mine is okay as well, no skipping at all, sound is crisp and bright. I'm playing it on ProJect Debut Esprit with Ortofon 2M Red cartridge. Intro in Enter sandman is really beefy, percussion in Unforgiven so very live and even in million times heard Nothing else matters I've discovered few new things. From my experience good release.
Zeli
My copy sounds great, no skips! This is on a Pioneer PL-S50 with a Sure M97XE @ 1.25g tracking force.
Gavidor
Got this from Hot Topics a week ago and it plays beautifully on my Technics SL-1401 with Shure V15 type III. Sounds marvelous, clear and very detailed.
Kerahuginn
Bouht this LP new and there is distortion in the high frequencies and a skip on Through the Never. Haven't listened further for now but I am disappointed!
Gholbithris
Poor quality. Skips and glitches on numerous tracks. Different needles and cartridges have not worked.
Niwield
Just got this, can confirm skips on Through the Never and Nothing Else Matters. Otherwise, the LP sounds good to me. I haven't noticed any distortion through headphones.
Quttaro
The record is quite good in general but I can hear some distortion in a few songs. Not all that bad but still not a premium pressing.
Angana
The vinyl is mint (bought on amazon), but a very very bad quality ! It skip 3 time by song ! I'm so disappointed !
Akir
Spine on mine says BLCKND008-1
Adokelv
Wow! They finally reissued a great sounding LP.
Daiktilar
I noticed that too. Mine warbled at the end of through the never and had scratches at the beginning of enter sandman. Poor quality pressing. Misses many spots or just skips past them.
Kulwes
My copy was great sounding until Side 3 where Through the Never skips horribly during the chorus and Nothing Else Matters has horrible distortion on the vocals during the verses.
